HEAVY JACKET PRODUCTIONS is a film production studio based in Manchester, England and is lead by trio Phil Matthews, Steven Wood and Lizzie Wood. We work to capture stories with fresh, innovative film techniques to create compelling and inspiring visual content for global audiences.

BEHIND THE CAMERA
PHIL MATTHEWS
Phil is an award-winning producer/director/executive producer, with over two decades of experience in football and sports documentaries. After being short-listed for a BAFTA for his debut feature-length documentary about the 1958 Munich Air Disaster, Phil founded ‘MUTV Films’; Manchester United’s own documentary department. This was years before the genre exploded to it’s current level and Phil was at the forefront, creating hundreds of documentaries across numerous elite sports. He always ensures each film has the emotional depth and powerful storytelling to match the subject. In 2015 he won an RTS Award and was nominated for the prestigious SJA award for a film on boxer Anthony Crolla. Before leaving to start his own company, MUTV Films had amassed x17 awards nominations and even won a European Union award. Phil is used to working in a globally aware, multi-platform environment.
LIZZIE WOOD
Lizzie Wood is an experienced senior television producer and journalist who has worked for the BBC and before that ITV for over 22 years.
Whilst producing for the BBC's flagship Ten o'clock News she was part of the team who won the RTS Programme of the Year award two years running. The team were also nominated for a BAFTA for their coverage of David Cameron's election.
Lizzie's area of expertise is interviewing and coaxing out exclusive quotes from her guests. She's interviewed everyone from the Chancellor of the Bank of England on the day Brexit was declared to celebrity Hugh Grant and musician Shaun Ryder. Lizzie has an extensive contacts book, particularly in the field of sport which has always been her passion. Being a tenacious and creative producer, Heavy Jacket Productions is the perfect platform to showcase her talents.
STEVEN WOOD
Music has always been Steven's background, combined with a passion for sport and film. Steven's strength is his knowledge of football. He's attended three World Cups, has been a Manchester United season ticket holder for over 35 years and has watched the team play in over 20 cities across Europe.
Steven has successfully run music events working with the likes of Primal Scream, Black Grape, White Lies, Franz Ferdinand and The Cribs. He has collaborated on short films for MUTV for his event The British Sound Project.
Steven also co-runs a successful music label and has managed numerous bands. He is now fulfilling his passion for film in joining Phil and Lizzie at Heavy Jacket Productions.
